One of the great metaphors to describe our great Savior is found in Isaiah 53:1, "Who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?" In this well beloved chapter, we are challenged with the message of the humiliation of the Messiah. But we also see the delivering power and abundant strength of the Lord Himself. Thirty-six of the references to "arm" in the Old Testament are references to God and His activities. The One who is the great Potentate of the universe is also the ratifier of all His promises. This should be of great encouragement when we struggle as weak, feeble, needy and sick. God's great arm of strength is what has kept us and what keeps us secure. Have you struggled with the battles of life? Look to our mighty, all-powerful, all-delivering God. As the hymn writer wrote:

"Under the shadow of thy Throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defense is sure."

May our trust always be in our great God and His enduring strength alone.
