In Isaiah's vision of the great throne room of God, one of the Seraphim cried out, "Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, the whole earth is full of His glory" (Isa 6:3).  We've lost that urgency in the church today, that we are an institution established to disseminate this wonderful high view of God. We've descended from this lofty purpose to focus on man and his needs. I'm not saying that we simply ignore peoples' needs. We are to be concerned about peoples' needs the same way God is. The balance is found when we begin with this exalted view of God. If we are ever to see His true greatness, we must be confronted with His holiness in His Word, time and time again. We have such a high view of man that any time death occurs we ask, "how could God allow this to happen?" What we should be asking is, "why are we still alive?" God, in His supreme holiness, could have wiped us off the map of history with the first sin and been absolutely just in doing so. When we have this glorious view of God all of life becomes a privilege and an absolute grace. Let's keep our hearts and minds directed toward Him and not self!
