As we look at the death of Jesus Christ on the cross, nothing compares to its significance. Other major doctrines, such as the doctrine of the incarnation, or the second coming, or the creation of the new heaven and new earth, all lose their significance without the death of Christ. In His death, He supremely revealed the love and holiness of God. So often we think of the death of Christ, many think that there must have been some other way, but once God decreed to save mankind, there was no other way and no other means. One who was human must live a perfect Godlike life, and give His life as a substitute for others. There was only one option and that was the Second Person of the Trinity taking on human flesh and dying in our place. There was no other way. This was not one option among many. Galatians 2:21 says, "For if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly." If salvation could come in any other way, then Christ's sacrifice was no use. This is the only way. Praise God for His eternal plan and His eternal goodness!!
