| Many have looked at God's holiness as God's chief attribute. We many times think that it would be neat and awesome to see the Lord of Glory. Yet, the Scriptures show us that when people are in God's presence they are brought to the point of deep sorrow and humility. Isaiah is a good example. When he was in God's presence he said, "Woe is me for I am ruined!" The apostle John had a similar experience. Revelation 1:17 says, "And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as a dead man." There is a lightness when it comes to God's holiness. We do not fully comprehend the difference between sinful humanity and God. God is absolutely holy. In His presence all we can see is our sinfulness and tremble at His perfect holiness. All that the Bible tells us of God is to create a sense of awe, and show us how glorious and worthy of worship He is. The Bible challenges us to have grand thoughts of God. What do we think of God? Do we ever shudder at how unlike Him we really are? This allows us to see how amazing the love of God is and how incredible the cost that love. Challenge yourself with great thoughts of God. Let His Word challenge our puny thoughts! |
