David said in Psalm 61:2, "Lead me to the rock that is higher than I." The thought of God being a rock is prominent in the Davidic Psalms. David had used the rocks of the Judean wilderness as places of refuge and protection during the years he was forced to hide from King Saul and Absolom. He knew every nook and cranny, and where to flee in times of duress. He knew their safe protection. Yet David learned to trust God, not only in the dark times, but the times of blessing also. It's easy when times are rough to think of God as our rock that is so far greater than us, but how about when times are good? Do we consider God to be our high Rock of protection? Many Cristians become like the ship that runs on the crippling rocks during a storm. Their faith in Christ is shaken and they begin to trust other things. Our God is a solid Rock. There is no moving. We stand complete in our salvation through Christ. Whether times happen to be good or bad, God calls us to trust in our indestructible fortress, which is God.
