One of the most illustrative metaphors of the operation of the church in God's Word is the Body. 1 Cor 12:12 says "For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ." No Christian can exist without other believers. God has made us different from one another, with strengths, and weaknesses, so we would complement each other. All are necessary. We like to make some indispensable; more important than others. God warns us of this proud attitude (Rom 12:3). Each believer has a function in the body that is necessary for the growth of others. Therefore, all are necessary to the glory of Christ. They key in the body is humility. There is only room for the Praise of One. We are to strive to foster and maintain the unity of the body that Christ has created (Eph 4:3). This has doctrinal parameters, but all of us are to work for this unity so Christ's name will be elevated. As we look at these principles, and their importance, what is your function in the body of Christ? How are you striving to see these purposes come to fruition? Let's be active together for the cause of Christ!!
