What do you think of when you have nothing else to think about?  So many think of the past and what might have been.  They spend countless hours in reflection and sorrow over opportunities lost and joys spurned.  They think their lives could have been so much different if only they did this or that.  Paul says in Phil. 3:7-8, "But whatsoever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ... and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ."  When Paul says that he counts all things as rubbish, he is saying they are of no value.  No normal person daydreams nostalgically about the manure pile that he or she could have had.  They way we talk about the past and who we are today, we have to wonder if we truly have any confidence in the biblical God of the Scriptures.  God has ordained the times of our lives.  We can learn from our mistakes but we can neer know our "what ifs".  Our dreams of bygone years are usually better than reality.  Even more importantly, do we see who we are in Christ today?  Do we count all things of no value that we might learn of Christ and serve Him today?
