| John Paton was a missionary to the New Hebrides which is located near Australia. He took the Gospel to a tribal people who were cannibals. He lost many of his fellow missionaries to martyrdom. He was even forced at one point to flee the islands for his life. One of the turning points in his ministry was when he returned with other missionaries to preach the Gospel. The natives were amazed when they saw a ship approaching with Paton and other missionaries. How could this man return when they treated him and the other missionaries so harshly? We never know the impact, not only of our words, but also our lives. We preach the Gospel of love that changes our lives. When people see that change, like the natives, it adds validity to that message. Who has harmed us with either words or actions? How do we treat them? Do we show them the love of Christ by how we react to wrongs done against us? Ephesians 4:32 says, "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other just as God in Christ also has forgiven you." We must remember our great model is none other than Jesus Christ. |
