Ephesians 2:8 says, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God." The story is told of Dr. Harry Ironside's father, laying in bed just before his death. He seemed to be captivated with Peter's vision of the descending sheet in Acts 10. He kept repeating the phrase, "A great sheet, and wild beasts, and ---." It seemed he couldn't remember the next phrase, so a friend bent down and said, "John, it's 'creeping things.'" Mr. Ironside replied, "Oh yes, that's how I got in! Just a good for nothing creeping thing! I got in -- saved by grace." Many times, through the busyness of our lies, we forget to pause and truly stand in awe and wonder at the nature of grace. We stand on the merits of another. We have even been given the wonderful gift of believing in the merits of Christ. Anytime we feel our devotion in Christ is stale, we need to stand again in the wonder of His grace.
