The sin of ingratitude is one of the ugliest sins. In Luke 17, we have the incident of the ten lepers. In those days, lepers were quarantined to colonies away from loved ones, because the dreaded disease was so contagious. It is almost inconceivable that anyone could ever be cured of this disease, which left them permanently cut off from society. Yet, Jesus Christ commands them to go show themselves to the priest, which was the Levitical procedure for those healed of leprosy. The healing occurred miraculously, but the stunning part of the account is that only one turned back, "giving thanks to Him." Their unthankfulness is so repulsive because Christ's mercy changed their lives so greatly. Yet, how often do we pause to gaze in astonishment at the awesome salvation that each of us have become partakers in? One of the ugliest sights is a Christian who does not give thanks to his Lord.
